Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education and partners launch safe learning technical assistance initiative
In a bid to combat school-related gender-based violence, the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education and all the line ministries and partners have launched a safe learning technical assistance initiative. The venture is expected to create a safer learning environment and end school discrimination. The alarming rate of gender-based violence in schools was a primary factor that led to the launching of the initiative. Through support from the Global Partnership Fund for Education, Sierra Leone is among two countries that were identified to implement the initiative to end school violence. Several educative sessions from national and international partners were held to present the actual perspective of how gender-based violence has impacted schools. However, it was established that even the pupils who were victims could also serve as perpetrators of violence in schools. The engagement was interactive as pupils present added their voices to the discourse, stressing the essence of a conducive learning environment. .
